Quinta do Paço da Serrana

Rehabilitation of Quinta do Paço da Serrana, the former home of Alexandre Alberto da Rocha de Serpa Pinto (1846-1900) – a native of Cinfães and a renowned explorer of Africa.

Overlooking the Douro River near Cinfães, Quinta do Paço da Serrana is an estate spanning approximately 19 ha of immense heritage and natural value; it is the subject of a rehabilitation and redevelopment project led by the Municipality of Cinfães.

The project encompassed the rehabilitation of the main house (which will host an interactive museum dedicated to Serpa Pinto’s legacy), the oven, and the chapel, as well as the redevelopment of the forest area. This included the creation of walking trails and observation points for nature, wildlife, and flora, the restoration of select buildings, and the establishment of an educational farm.
